Quick Start Guide

Install the Extension

  1. Click on the Admin supplied Extension link
  2. Verify Chrome Web Store is showing NameAudio
  3. Click "Add to Chrome"
  4. Confirm installation and permissions
  5. Look for the NameAudio icon in your toolbar

Navigate to Veracross

  1. Log into your school's Veracross portal
  2. Go to any directory page
  3. Look for NameAudio Icon next to names
  4. Look for trainer buttons (🎙️) next to names
  5. The extension works automatically

Start Using NameAudio

  1. Click any play NameAudio Icon button to hear pronunciation
  2. Click trainer 🎙️ button to practice
  3. View phonetic spellings in trainer
  4. Get real-time feedback on your pronunciation
  5. Practice until you feel confident!

Feature Guides

Audio Playback

How it works: Click the play NameAudio Icon button next to any name in Veracross or Gmail to hear the correct pronunciation instantly.

Tips:
  • Works in both Veracross directory pages and Gmail contacts
  • Audio plays directly - no need to leave the page
  • Your school determines which names have recordings
  • Audio is cached locally for faster playback

Pronunciation Trainer

How to use: Click the microphone 🎙️ button next to a name to open the pronunciation trainer modal.

Steps:
  1. Click "Play" to hear the correct pronunciation
  2. Click "Start Practice" to begin recording
  3. Say the name clearly into your microphone
  4. View your score and what you said
  5. Repeat as needed to improve
Tips for best results:
  • Use a quiet environment
  • Speak clearly and at a moderate pace
  • Position microphone 6-12 inches away
  • Listen to reference audio first
  • Grant microphone permissions when prompted

Practice Lists

For Administrators: Create and manage practice lists for graduation, awards ceremonies, and other events.

How to create a list:
  1. Log into the admin dashboard
  2. Navigate to "Practice Lists"
  3. Click "Create New List"
  4. Add names from recordings or custom entries
  5. Arrange names in order (drag & drop)
  6. Share the list with a secure link

  • Filter alphabetically by first or last name
  • Search for specific names
  • Share with email/password protection
  • Print-friendly format

Email Signature Links

Share your pronunciation: Get a permanent link to your name pronunciation for your email signature.

How to get your link:
  1. Go to https://myaccount.google.com/
  2. Look for the "Copy NameAudio link" button
  3. Click to copy your unique link
  4. Paste it into your email signature
  5. Anyone can click to hear your name

  • No sign-in required for viewers
  • Link never expires
  • Track views and plays
  • Professional appearance

Suggest Corrections

Help improve accuracy: If you notice incorrect phonetic data, you can suggest corrections.

How to suggest:
  1. Open the pronunciation trainer
  2. Click the lightbulb (💡) icon
  3. Enter suggested corrections
  4. Optionally provide your email
  5. Submit for admin review
What happens next:
  • Administrators review your suggestion
  • If approved, phonetic data updates instantly
  • Helps improve accuracy for everyone
  • You can track suggestion status

Extension Settings

Manage the extension: Access settings by clicking the NameAudio NameAudio Icon icon in your browser toolbar.

Available options:
  • Enable/Disable: Turn extension on or off
  • Site Access: Automatically works on Veracross and Gmail
  • Permissions: Manage microphone and storage access
  • Updates: Chrome updates automatically
  • Refresh: Reload extension if buttons don't appear

Technical Questions

What browsers are supported?

NameAudio works with Chrome 88+ and Edge 88+ (Chromium-based). Both Windows and macOS are fully supported. The extension is specifically designed for Chrome and may not work with other browsers.

Do I need to create an account?

No account is required for basic use. The extension works automatically once installed and detects your school from the Veracross URL. Administrators need accounts to manage recordings and settings.

Is my data secure?

Yes. The extension only accesses Veracross and Gmail directory pages. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We follow strict security protocols and never collect or store personal data beyond what's necessary for functionality.

How do I update the extension?

Chrome automatically updates extensions in the background. You can also manually update by visiting chrome://extensions/, enabling Developer Mode, and clicking "Update".

Why don't all names have audio buttons?

Audio buttons only appear for names that have recorded pronunciations in your school's NameAudio system. Contact your school administrator to request additional recordings.

Can I use this on mobile devices?

The Chrome extension is designed for desktop browsers. However, public NameAudio links (for email signatures) are fully mobile-friendly. Full mobile app support is planned for future releases.

How do I report a bug or issue?

Contact us at support@nameaudio.app with details about the issue, your browser version, operating system, and steps to reproduce the problem. Screenshots are helpful!

Can I export pronunciation data?

Audio files and pronunciation data are managed through the admin dashboard. Contact your school administrator for data export options or portability requests.
