Installation Guide

Chrome Extension Installation

  1. Download the Extension
    • Click on the Admin supplied Extension link
    • Verify Chrome Web Store is showing NameAudio
    • Click "Add to Chrome"
    • Approve the extension permissions
  2. Grant Permissions
    • Give the extension access
    • Add Gamil code (if applicable)
    • Pin the extension to your toolbar
  3. Verify Installation
    • Look for the NameAudio icon in your toolbar
    • Navigate to a Veracross directory page
    • You should see play buttons next to names
    • Navigate to Gmail inbox
    • You should see play buttons next to names with recordings

Configuration Guide

Extension Settings

Access the extension settings by clicking the NameAudio icon in your browser toolbar:

  • Enable/Disable Extension: Toggle the extension on or off
  • Automatic Site Access: Extension activates only on Veracross and Gmail automatically
  • Storage Permissions: Manages local caching of pronunciation data
  • Update Settings: Chrome automatically updates the extension


The extension does not activate on other sites and only works with names in Veracross and Gmail!

Veracross Integration

The extension automatically integrates with Veracross directory pages:

  • Play Buttons: Look for the speaker icon next to student names
  • Trainer Button: Click the microphone icon to practice pronunciation
  • One-Click Playback: Click play to hear the pronunciation
  • Phonetic Data: View phonetic spellings in the trainer modal

Admin Configuration

School/Organization administrators can:

  • Review and approve audio recordings
  • Manage practice lists for events
  • Review phonetic suggestions from users
  • Monitor usage analytics and statistics

Troubleshooting Guide

Extension Not Working

Problem: Extension doesn't appear on Veracross pages

Solutions:
  • Check if the extension is enabled in Chrome (chrome://extensions/)
  • Refresh the Veracross page (Ctrl+F5 or Cmd+Shift+R)
  • Verify you're on a supported Veracross domain
  • Check extension permissions in Chrome settings
  • Try disabling other extensions temporarily

Problem: Audio won't play

Solutions:
  • Check your browser's audio settings and unmute
  • Verify your internet connection is stable
  • Try refreshing the page
  • Check if audio files exist for that specific person
  • Clear browser cache and try again

Trainer Issues

Problem: Pronunciation trainer not working

Solutions:
  • Grant microphone permissions to your browser
  • Check your microphone is working in system settings
  • Ensure no other application is using the microphone
  • Try using a different browser
  • Reload the page and try again

Problem: Low pronunciation scores

Tips:
  • Speak clearly and at a moderate pace
  • Ensure you're in a quiet environment
  • Position microphone 6-12 inches from your mouth
  • Listen to the reference audio first
  • Practice multiple times to improve

Upload Issues

Problem: Can't upload audio files

Solutions:
  • Check your internet connection
  • Verify you have recording permissions from your admin
  • Ensure the audio file meets format requirements
  • Try recording again with a fresh session
  • Contact your school administrator

Performance Issues

Problem: Slow loading or lag

Solutions:
  • Check your internet connection speed

NameAudio is available through school subscriptions. Contact us for pricing information tailored to your institution's size and needs.

Which browsers are supported?

Currently, we support Google Chrome 88+ and Microsoft Edge 88+ (Chromium-based). Both Windows and macOS are fully supported.

Can I use NameAudio on mobile devices?

The Chrome extension is designed for desktop use. However, public NameAudio links (for email signatures) are mobile-friendly. Mobile extension support is planned for future releases.

How do I update the extension?

Chrome automatically updates extensions in the background. You can also manually update by visiting chrome://extensions/ and clicking "Update" in developer mode.

How secure is my data?

All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We follow strict security protocols, maintain tenant isolation, and never share your information with third parties.

Can I export my audio files?

Audio files are managed through the NameAudio admin dashboard. Contact your school administrator for export options or data portability requests.

Why don't all names have audio buttons?

Audio buttons only appear for names that have recorded pronunciations in your school's NameAudio system. Contact your school administrator to add more recordings.

How do I suggest a pronunciation correction?

Click the lightbulb icon in the pronunciation trainer modal to submit a suggestion. Your school administrator will review and approve corrections.
